Before you begin even thinking about your website submission, you should make sure that your site is optimized for a theme or a category, as the directories are organized by categories and you can not submit pages but you submit you home page. Directories are more important than search engines for website submission because many search engines base their listings on the results they find on various directories and this is because most of the directories are human edited, and the search engines are not.

Remember that editors are people and have emotions, and normally they know a lot about the subject or a particular category, they have seen many websites and they will recognize at a glance if yours is worth their time or not. So again make sure your content is unique because that’s what the directories want, if it’s duplicate content you will be wasting someone’s time and yours as well.
Read the condition properly before you submit your site, a little mistake and your domain will be rejected. If your website contains original content and is optimized properly the directories will be glad to have you on board, because you are providing them with something valuable, make your site something to be proud of, and it won’t be refused.
Submitting your site to directories is part and probably the most important step of website submission and promotion. Personally I don’t think it’s necessary to submit your website to the search engines, I prefer to let them find my websites, I experimented that it works better this way, this is like attacking from the back as Napoleon used to call it. Let’s say that you submit your site to Google before submitting to any other place, how Google will judge your site? It will judge it as another among millions trying to get their attention, but if instead you submit to a few hundred directories, Google spiders will find your URL in these directories, and they will come and check what’s on the site and if there is new original information of course they will list it, they don’t want to miss that information for their customers, suddenly your site becomes desired, will have a strong foundation, and your website submission will be successful.
Once you have done this most of the job of website submission is done, you can then proceed and submit some article to article directories. Submitting articles is another good strategy for website promotion and submission, it will create many back links, which are good for your PR, and spread your presence around the web.
